Core ESP preparation

  •  ESP-Bruce is about to start the 2nd of it's 3 pre-deployment runs.  Hopefully finished with all on Friday, and we will be ready for canning.
  •  ESP-MOE has had MFB qualified and all reagents are loaded.
    • One worry is no runs have been performed since the rebuild.  Tonight will run core-negative, tomorrow pressure tests, next week will fold in software changes for adaptive sampling.  Then test with spiked nitrate to test the algorithms.

Array Printer causing problems--this time alignment issues.  Roman will investigate when he returns.

BioSpace and SHA

  •  Discussed how we can put our results in the larger group context for the meeting planned March 28-30.
  • Julio has run 32 gulper arrays for zooplankton, and tying to push to get 30 HAB's finished.
  • John/Julio/Roman/Jim/Chris will meet to discuss how to put ESP data in line with hydrographic data and figure out how to present.  This meeting will be Weds or Thursday this week.

Other issues

  •  NSF coming March 21 to film ESP stuff.  Kim Fulton-Bennett organizing this.
  • Much discussion about what our next 3-18 months look like:
    • Elif
      • develop p/p for HAB species
      • compare SHA results with qPCR results for HAB species
      • once p/p developed, apply these to transects from Chavez cruise
      • apply and help with prep for JdF, and SC Wharf
    • Chris
      • Prepping MOE for spring M0 deployment
      • Optimizing Harvard's probes for JdF this summer
      • Conversion of NEO to a grill-style MFB and the associated code changes and testing that will require.
      • Get NEO working to run HAB/DA/qPCR from same sample for testing on SC Wharf in fall, 2011
      • perhaps rubisco gene development for D-ESP on MARS in Fall
    • Bill
      • will return to process our multitude of archival samples
      • continue to learn MFB processes with goal to set up D-ESP MFB work for MARS in fall, 2011
      • continue as logistics coordinator for JdF this summer
      • farther out, lead a hydrate ridge trip in 2012
